The Scripture Behind the Tree
"Jesus wept." (John 11:35)
He deeply mourned the death of His friend Lazarus despite knowing that only a short time later He would raise Lazarus from the dead. This simple statement shows Jesus's profound empathy for those who are grieving.
In His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)
Jesus, fully human and fully divine, shares in our grief — understanding loss intimately. His tears validate human sorrow, promising divine comfort through resurrection hope. This mirrors the deep comfort Jesus's followers receive through the Holy Spirit, our Comforter (John 14:26). Thus, He assures us of solace in mourning.
A Tree of Remembrance
Attendees were invited to write the name of a loved one and hang a butterfly ornament in memoriam — a living tribute to those we carry in our hearts, held in the hands of the One who wept and who promises to wipe every tear away.

Proceeds from this tree benefit the Christian Missions & Participating Organizations of the 2025 Naples Festival of Trees, including all 30+ ministries featured throughout the event — from food pantries and homeless shelters to youth ministries and international missions.
